True Freedom
On Protecting Human Dignity and Religious Liberty
Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, Archbishop of New York
Are American liberties on the endangered species list? In this eBook original, the Archbishop of New York and president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops issues a plea for all citizens to reject the cynicism of the day and foster a culture in which religious freedom and all human life are infinitely valued.
Religion and the dignity of human life are under attack by a variety of threats in the modern world including abortion, infanticide, eugenics, misuse of artificial reproductive technologies, an unjust distribution of economic resources, war, the arms trade, drugs, and human trafficking. What can be done to stop this? Cardinal Timothy Dolan explains the need for all Americans to embrace a new culture rooted in what Blessed John Paul II called the Gospel of Life where the sacredness of all human life, and the freedoms that are their birthright, are upheld, respected and protected by law.

Cardinal Dolan's timely book is one that is very useful in today's environment responding to the Mandate of the Dept. of Health and Human Services demanding that any and all entities furnishing insurance to their employees be financially responsible for any medical treatment , regardless of whether such medical treatment is regarded by that religious faith as morally repugnant . What Cardinal Dolan explains is how this Mandate is a violation of the very principles of the Culture of Life, as explained by John Paul II in Evangelium Vitae (1995). By this faith in the sanctity and inviolability of all human life we have the basis of our human self-determination in the Culture of Life. The Mandate, on the other hand, is an expression of the Culture of Death. This culture seeks to subdue any and all persons and groups into its politically-motivated agenda, according to the subjective values of the people who hold political power. The inalienable right of all Americans to religious freedom found in the Culture of Life is the first principle Constitution of the United States itself! Without such freedom our Founding Fathers knew that we have no democracy!!Product details

True Freedom On Protecting Human Dignity and Religious Liberty edition by Timothy M Dolan Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
After reading this book it's easy to see why Cardinal Dolan has risen as quickly as he has in the Catholic Church. This is an easily understood message of protecting religious freedom and human life that should resonate with all faiths. If you already believe in these virtues, the book will offer new insights into our current battles in the U.S. and if you don't but read with an open mind, hopefully it will change your mind... The version has an excerpt from "A People of Hope" by John Allen Jr. which are conversations with the Cardinal that give a greater insight into this remarkable Church leader.
As a practicing Catholic, I thoroughly enjoyed Cardinal Dolan's writings, thoughts, and real-world vocabulary. True Freedom was easy to read and a call, for me, to better protect all of our freedoms and to better appreciate every single day of my life! From the very first page this book had me thinking, smiling, and thanking God for the blessings He's given me. I highly recommend every single page! I hope Cardinal Dolan continues to write and enlighten us all. God Bless you.
In a time of such high controversy for the Catholic Church, it is rare to get a full picture of what the Church's real position is. This is in no small way a result of the disconnect between the 24-he news cycle approach to information and the Church's difficulty with speaking soundbite language.
Cardinal Dolan lays out the Church's position on the recent HHS regulation requiring employers - even the Catholic Church - to pay the insurance on contraception. MOST IMPORTANTLY, he explains it with a balance of brevity and thoroughness key in this modern day of communication.
This ebook actually has two parts; first the very fine essay by Cardinal Dolan - actually better then I expected. The Cardinal beautifully ties together the thoughts of Blessed John Paul, and Pope Benedict on the culture of life and the present-day threats to life. His use of quotes from Pope Benedict is especially effective. This essay takes only 20 minutes to read. Well worth the 99 cents to have "True Freedom" on the kindle app on your smart phone!
The second part, which they don't tell you is part of the deal, is an excerpt from NCR's John Allen's book "A People of Hope" a conversation between Allen and then Archbishop Dolan which was published in November, 2011. The book has very good reviews on , but I found the excerpt to be a bit cloying and over the top - a sugar-coated view of Dolan. It takes about 25 minutes to read.
If you are interested in a very cogent and succinct defense of natural law and Church teaching vs. our secular, consumerist culture then you can't do better then this ebook. I'm giving four stars because I just found the Allen excerpts a bit off-putting and unnecessary.
Cardinal Timothy Dolan answers the soul searching questions that good people ask themselves. The trials and troubles of people based on real practical problems cause the human intellect to want to bypass Natural Law and God's Laws to alleviate pain and suffering.
Cardinal Dolan gives soul-searching questions and answers to dilemmas such as the world finds us in. The Truth he proposes resonates in the heart while mind has to agree if the question, "What is Truth?" is sincerely seeking an answer.
I was blessed by the humility and respect the author gave the reader as if appealing to people of today who sincerely want to seek Truth not just for one problem but to have solid ground for any of life's problems, on a personal level and global level.
He leaves no doubt that Jesus Christ is the Way the Truth and the Life who gives us God's Word, the Word of Truth that does not pass away.
I loved this book! Never before have I been so overwhelmed with a book like this. Cardinal Dolan captured me his great use of words in a book. The Cardinal really inspired me to be the best Catholic I can be. I haven't been this excited about our great faith since I was in Theology school. Definitely a great read for young and old that need a boost in our faith.
it can't happen here, well, here it is. Once the first amendment falls, we all go with it. Then there will be no stopping "them". Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty, said one of those old dead white men that our elites are disparaging. Amazing, isn't it, how the same things just happen over and over again throughout history - the sweet pitch, promises of a painless future, then the mouse trap springs WHAP! Card. Dolan has plenty to teach here. Are you willing to listen?
