Torn apart as teenagers by those who should have loved them best and expecting a child, Shane Galanter and Lauren Anderson searched for each other for years, but after eighteen years, they've almost given up hope. Emily, the daughter Lauren thought she had lost, wants to find her parents and possibly bring healing to the family. She might not be able to do that, but she believes God can do it through her.The last book I read by Karen Kingsbury became so gut-retching that I wouldn't read it's sequel. For a while, I was afraid this one was going to be the same way. It was at first, but then things began to turn around, and it became more hopeful. In the end, I must say I really enjoyed it. The only thing I questioned with mechanics and research is if Lauren would have worn shorts to an orphanage in Afghanistan. I think a reporter there would try to respect their customs to some degree. I was disappointed when, near the end, political stereotypes were blatant. All Christians were Republican, conservative, and supported the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The few non-Christians were all liberal, anti-war, and probably Democrat. A good writer should do better than this.

Karen Kingsbury has written another heart rending story that grabs you from the very first page and doesn't let go!!! It's about. Two Christian teenagers who fall in love and end up expecting a baby. Their well off parents are so afraid of them not having the wonderful future planned for them wanted the baby given up for adoption but the kids where determined to raise their baby. It's 1988 and cell phones and internet wasn't common so their parents decided to separate them and hopefully force an adoption. They truly meant well, just thought they didn't know what love was. This is the story of how they lived and yearned and then was brought back together!!! How God brought them together!!! You will need Kleenex!! Co)
This was a real sad read & my first ever by KK & I wasn't disappointed.
Shane & Lauren are two high school teens from the quintessential American suburban family. Nice grades, well behaved, a good living & all a teen could ask of life. Until it all goes awry. In love w/ each other since they could both remember, one thing leads to another & Lauren gets pregnant.
This tears the whole fabric of the two formerly close families apart as each family strives to maintain the "good" façade through cruel means. 18 years later, their daughter lands on important clues in an old box of Lauren's while searching for her mom. What happens next is nothing short of miraculous.
As story of extreme pain, loss, anger, forgiveness & redemption, it had me in tears for most of it. I couldn't put it down till I'd finished. It's safe to say that I'll be on the KK train for a while. A highly recommended read to anyone but especially
A parent who has lost a child by whatever circumstances (it will be a painful read FYI)
A parent w/ an expectant child out of wedlock.
Anyone struggling to forgive or find forgiveness.
Shane Galanter is a man ready to put down roots after years of searching. But is he making the right choice? Or is there a woman somewhere who even now remembers―as does he―those long-ago days . . . and a love that hasn’t faded with time?
Lauren Gibbs is a successful international war correspondent who gave up on happily-ever-after years ago―when it was ripped away from her. Since then, she’s never looked back. So why can’t she put to rest the one question that haunts her Why is life so empty?
Emily Anderson is a college freshman raised by her grandparents and about to take her first internship as a journalist. But before she can move ahead, she discovers a love story with a tragic ending that came accompanied her birth. As a result, she is compelled to look back and search out the mother she’s never met.
A young woman seeking answers to her heart’s deep questions. A man and woman separated by lies and long years . . . yet who have never forgotten each other. With hallmark tenderness and power, Karen Kingsbury weaves a tapestry of lives, loss, love, and faith―and the miracle of resurrection.
Karen Kingsbury is a master at writing true-to-life characters in believable situations that pulls the reader in and keeps her there. Kingsbury does an excellent job of intertwining characters and each one serves to move the story along. Satisfying ending.
I give Even Now by Karen Kingsbury a 5-star rating and recommend her book to women whose hearts have not lost its fire of love.
Review by Rita Kroon, author of "Letters from the Past" and "Kiss Your Mommy Goodbye"
This is an excellent book and another winner by Karen Kingsbury. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of reading it and was happy with the outcome. Sad they lost so many years, but still an uplifting story.
I feel it's actually a five star read, but because of typos, run on words, auto corrected WRONG words and a host of poorly edited mistakes, I took one star away. At times, I had to re-read and guess at the correct word. This is NOT typical of Karen Kingsbury so I will blame it on conversion to digital format for now. I have always been proud of 's ability to produce book after book, digitally converted, without mistakes. Lately, some of the biggest selling authors have the most mistakes. Disappointing. Is it in haste to get it to market? If so, I would rather wait for a good digital copy than a poorly edited digital copy that was thrown out to the market. That being said, I did not pay a fortune for this particular book, thank heavens. BUT were I have had to pay full price, it would have been the last one I bought from this author and perhaps from . Yes, it was that bad.
